Why Join NWEC?

Your local economic council is working hard to support businesses and create jobs in Whatcom County.  This page highlights our three key initiatives for 2010.  Because of the support we receive from each of our members and our regional partners we are able to continue our work in this community.

Key Initiatives for 2010:

ADO Duties & Responsibilities
As the Associate Development Organization (ADO) for Whatcom County, there are several core activities that the NWEC is responsible for in this Region.  Our five core responsibilities include: Business Retention & Expansion, Business Startup Assistance, Support for Regional Research & Planning, Readiness & Capacity/Asset Building, and Recruitment/ Attraction of Businesses.  For additional detail, review our NWEC as the ADO webpage.

Innovation Resource Center
The Northwest Economic Council is currently working with several regional partners to create the Innovation Resource Center (IRC). The IRC is a business support process that speeds up the successful development of start-up and fledgling companies by providing entrepreneurs with an array of targeted resources and services such as business mentoring and coaching. For more detail, please review our IRC webpage.

Regional Economic Strategy
NWEC is currently working to develop a Regional Economic Strategy for Whatcom County.  This strategy document will set forth key goals and objectives intended to solve the economic problems, and capitalize on the resources and comparative advantages of the Region.  When completed, the Strategy document will help to create jobs and foster a more stable, diverse local economy.  For more detail, please refer to our Economic Strategy webpage.
